Hall Of Fame Scholarship Gala
NC Central University’s Raleigh-Wake Alumni Chapter Scholarship Gala

RALEIGH, NC-With its strong commitment to academic excellence, the North Carolina Central University’s Raleigh-Wake Alumni Chapter hosted its Hall of Fame Scholarship Gala Celebrating the Centennial: Honoring Soaring Eagles.  Mrs. Deborah Holt- Noel, Host and Produce, UNC-TV was the Mistress of Ceremonies. The guest speaker for the Gala was North Carolina Central University’s Chancellor Dr. Charlie Nelms. The alumni association awarded four students scholarships for the 2010-11 school year.

This year’s Hall of Fame Scholarship Gala recognized each of the following alumni:

  • Honoree Reverend Dr. William J. Barber is a scholar and visionary who received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration, graduated Cum Laude. He is President of the North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP.
  • Honoree Lindy M. Brown received her undergraduate degree in 1985. She is a Clinical Social Worker and an elected Wake County Commissioner.
  • Honoree The Honorable Milton F. Fitch, Jr. received his Bachelor of Science Degree and his Juris Doctorate from the School of Law. He was appointed Superior Court Judge of District 7 B/C. He was elected as the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge Jurisdiction of North Carolina, Incorporated.
  • Honoree V. LaVerne Lane received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce. She became a National Board Certified teacher in 2003. She has been a counselor and teacher for the Wake County Public School System.
  • Honoree Dr. E.B. Palmer received both undergraduate and graduate degrees. He has served on commissions, committees, and task forces under three US Presidents and seven NC Governors.
  • Honoree The Honorable Vinston Rozier attended the School of Law and is a Wake County District Court Judge.
  • Honoree John Wall, Jr. received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. He has been with the Wake County Public School System since 1990 serving as a teacher, football and basketball coach, assistant principal and is currently a Principal at North Garner Year Round Middle School.
  • Honoree Floyd W. Wicker received a Bachelor Degree in Health Education. He has held numerous professional positions with state and federal governments. He has been a self-employed Certified Real Estate Appraiser and Consultant. He is currently working as the Office Operations Supervisor for the US Census Bureau in the Wake County Office.
  • Honoree Pastor Cicero Williams, Jr. received both undergraduate and graduates degrees in Physical Education. He has been an educator over 30 years as a teacher/ administrator and coach with the Wake County Public School System.
  • Deceased Honoree Kenneth Ray Diggins received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He served in both the Army National Guard and the US Navy Reserve as a Lt. Colonel. Ken was owner and operator of Third Day Embroidery and East Coast Promotional Products. He was treasurer of the Raleigh/ Wake Alumni Association and was dedicated to the University and Alumni Association on multiple levels. At his untimely passing he was serving faithfully on the Hall of Fame Gala Committee.


Martha Kearney, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, gave the occasion and the scholarship committee awarded scholarships to the following incoming freshmen.

  • Epiphany Bragg, E T Beddingfield High School
  • Courtney Burnette, Wake Forest- Rolesville High School
  • Teresa Ingram, Garner magnet High School
  • Sharrese Lucas, Wake Forest-Rolesville High School


Robin Green, President of the Raleigh-Wake Chapter of the NCCU Alumni Association ended  the evening with offering heartfelt thanks to the Hall of Fame committee and the alumni.
