The New Student Induction and Eagle Pinning Ceremony was held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 in the McDougald-McLendon Arena on the campus of North Carolina Central University. David Bailey, 2007 graduate of North Carolina Central University spoke to the Class of 2021 at the annual ceremony. Bailey, a U. S. Capitol Police Officer, who is a member of the Congressional Security detail, was awarded the Medal of Valor by President Donald Trump for his actions during the Congressional baseball attack in Alexandria, Virginia. The Alumni Council and Annual Meeting of the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association was held Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the Criminal Justice Building Auditorium on the campus of North Carolina Central University with Samuel E. Cooper, National President presiding. The highlight of the meeting was the State of the University given by the 12th Chancellor, Dr. Johnson O. Akinleye. He updated Alumni regarding additional safety measures on campus and upcoming building projects. On Saturday, June 3, 2017, the Raleigh/Wake Chapter of the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association held a reception and inducted the Honorable Associate Justice Michael R. Morgan of the N.C. Supreme Court into the Eagle Hall of Fame. The event was held at Martin Street Baptist Church in the Family Life Center. Chapter President Paul Bitting welcomed guests and shared the occasion. The Reverend Paul Anderson, pastor of the Fountain of Raleigh, gave the invocation and grace and Linda Bailey provided piano music. Following the formal Induction Ceremony, Judge Morgan delivered a response. NCCU Alumni Association - Raleigh/Wake Chapter Holds Scholarship Reception Scholarships were awarded to five Wake County Students on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Chavis Community Center. Martha Kearney, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee welcomed the scholarship recipients, their families, guests, and alumni and Cliff Lavenhouse followed with prayer. Cynthia S. Simms introduced Dr. Monica Leach, Sr. Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs. Dr. Leach brought greetings and remarks on behalf of NCCU Interim Chancellor - Dr. Johnson O. Akinleye.
