Johnson O. Akinleye, Chancellor of North Carolina Central University presided over the Seventy-First Annual Founder’s Day Convocation on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the McDougald-McLendon Arena on the campus in Durham, North Carolina. The Reverend Gloria Winston-Harris, Director, Office of Spiritual Development and Dialogue brought the invocation; Mr. John Barbee, Vice Chairman, NCCU Board of Trustees, extended greetings; and Faith Thomas Lewis, Miss NCCU 2018-2019 introduced the Chancellor.
Dr. Akinleye introduced special guests and gave University remarks after which Ms. Roberta Laws directed the University Choir in Ezekiel Saw de Wheel, arranged by Roland M. Carter.Miss Annelese Samples, Senior Class President, introduced the speaker, Hellena Huntley Tidwell, NCCU Class of 1968. Mrs.Tidwell is past Vice President, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Arts and Science Council and Past Board Chairman, Penland School of Crafts. The Society of Golden Eagles Induction Ceremony was conducted by Dr. Felecia M. Nave, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.Chancellor Akinleye; Mr. Samuel Cooper, National President, NCCU Alumni Association Inc.; and Mr. Davanta Parker, President, Student Government Associationperformed the Truth and Service Ceremony.
